Maharashtra’s Big Push for Digital Creativity
The Maharashtra government has approved a ₹3,268-crore policy to boost its Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) sector.
The plan aims to double the industry’s size from ₹25,000 crore to ₹50,000 crore in the next five years, create two lakh jobs, and make Maharashtra a global hub for digital content.
What the Policy Offers
The new framework brings in incentives, concessions, and infrastructure upgrades.
Dedicated AVGC-XR parks, virtual production studios, testing labs, and shared facilities will be developed not just in Mumbai and Pune but also in tier 2 and tier 3 cities like Nagpur, Nashik, Kolhapur, and Satara.
Companies will benefit from lower power tariffs, relaxed stamp duties, and round-the-clock studio operations.
Focus on Skills and Talent
To prepare a future-ready workforce, AVGC-XR will be included in school education. A special committee of experts, academics, and officials will design training programs.
The state has already launched a satellite campus of the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) in Mumbai, offering 18 specialized courses.
Industry Welcomes the Move
Industry leaders and gaming communities have hailed the policy as “historic” and “futuristic.”
They believe it will boost local creators, attract global investments, and strengthen India’s position in gaming, esports, and immersive technology.
Conclusion
With Mumbai and Pune already home to Bollywood and over 295 animation studios, this policy gives Maharashtra the tools to stay ahead in India’s creative economy while stepping onto the global stage.
