Maharashtra and MIB Collaborate to Establish IICT in Mumbai

In a strategic move to bolster India’s Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) industry, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) and the Government of Maharashtra have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) in Mumbai. This initiative, in collaboration with the Maharashtra Film, Stage & Cultural Development Corporation Ltd. (MFSCDCL), aims to create a world-class institution dedicated to nurturing talent and fostering innovation within the creative industries.

The IICT is envisioned as a global center of excellence, focusing on education, research, innovation, and skill development in the AVGC-XR domain. Located at the Dadasaheb Phalke Film City in Goregaon, Mumbai, the institute will serve as a hub for aspiring professionals and industry veterans alike. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized that IICT Mumbai would be the first institute of its kind, aiming to position India as a leader in the creative economy.

Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating that the IICT would play a pivotal role in meeting the growing demand for skilled professionals in the AVGC-XR sector. The institute is expected to offer specialized courses and training programs, aligning with industry requirements and global standards.

The establishment of IICT comes at a time when the AVGC-XR industry is experiencing rapid growth, both domestically and internationally. By providing state-of-the-art infrastructure and fostering public-private partnerships, the institute aims to attract investments and create employment opportunities in the sector. The initiative is also expected to encourage the development of indigenous content and intellectual property, further strengthening India’s position in the global creative landscape.

With this collaboration, Maharashtra and the MIB are taking a significant step towards creating a robust ecosystem for the AVGC-XR industry, ensuring that India remains at the forefront of innovation and creativity in the digital age.
